How much text goes where

Practical guidelines for web pages and social posts.

Title 50–60 characters. Longer titles are truncated in search results.
Description 140–160 characters. This is the snippet shown under the headline in search.
A blog article From 800 words for a topic you want to rank. Shorter pieces rarely reach the top.
A service page 400–800 words. Enough to answer the questions and short enough to be read.

What else is worth counting

Characters with and without spaces Copywriters measure volume differently. The gap between the two figures can reach a fifth of the text.
Reading time Roughly 200 words a minute. Worth showing at the top of an article so the reader knows what they are in for.
Word frequency A keyword repeated too often reads as spam. A natural frequency stays under two per cent.
Sentence length Sentences over 25 words are hard to read on screen. Splitting them in two is almost always better.

FAQ

How is reading time calculated?
At an average of 200 words per minute — the accepted benchmark for reading in one’s own language. Complex technical material takes longer, simple news less. The figure is useful at the top of an article: readers finish a piece more often when they know upfront how long it will take.
What is the “most frequent words” block for?
It shows what the text is actually about, rather than what you thought while writing it. If an article was meant to be about building an online store but the top word is “company”, the text ended up being about you rather than the reader’s problem. Prepositions and function words are filtered out, so only meaningful vocabulary remains.
Why does character count matter for SEO?
Because Google truncates long lines in results. A title over about 60 characters gets cut mid-word, and so does a description over about 160. Social networks and messengers have their own limits, and for a post the cap can be hard. That is why the bars above show three benchmarks at once: title, description and a typical post limit.
