Why does a site need a sitemap.xml?
A sitemap is a list of URLs you offer the search engine to crawl. It matters most for new sites and large catalogues: Google finds pages faster when few internal links point to them. A sitemap does not guarantee indexing, but it noticeably speeds up discovery.
Why were fewer pages collected than my site has?
Crawling is capped at 120 pages and 20 seconds so the tool stays fast and does not overload other servers. We also skip pages with a noindex meta tag, files (PDF, images) and URLs on other domains. For large sites, generate the sitemap in your CMS instead.
Where do I upload the finished file?
To your site root — example.com/sitemap.xml. Then add the line Sitemap: https://example.com/sitemap.xml to robots.txt and submit the URL in Google Search Console → Sitemaps. Refresh the sitemap after every noticeable content update.
