AI Readiness Audit

Seventeen checks: AI crawler access, llms.txt, structured data and technical basics.

What AI readiness means

Language models draw answers from sites they can read and parse. That depends on specific technical things, not on how good the writing is.

Crawler access If robots.txt blocks GPTBot or ClaudeBot you will not be cited, however useful the material is.
Text in the source Most models read the HTML without running scripts. If the content is drawn by JavaScript, it is simply not in the source.
Structured data Schema.org states outright what is a price, an author, a date. The model does not have to infer it from markup.
An llms.txt file A short Markdown overview. A proposal rather than a standard, guaranteeing nothing, but it costs little.
The technical basics The page must load over https, return a 200 and not be closed to indexing. Without that the rest is moot.
Headings and structure One H1 and a few subheadings give a clear hierarchy. A wall of text with no structure is harder to parse.

How the score is calculated

No magic: each check carries a weight and the result is their sum. Every multiplier is shown below, so you can recompute the total by hand.

Passed The check counts in full. For example, every AI crawler has access, or the page returns a 200.
Partial Half the weight. For example the title exists but is too long, or a minority of crawlers is blocked.
Failed Zero points. No structured data at all, the page is closed to indexing, or there is no title.
Three groups AI readiness, technical basics and content are scored separately: often one is solid while another fails.

What this tool does not do

Worth stating plainly, because the topic attracts a lot of overstatement.

It does not use language models The checks run on the rules listed above. The name refers to readiness FOR AI, not an audit performed BY AI.
It does not show whether you are cited Only querying those systems can reveal that. We check the preconditions, not the outcome.
It is not a full site audit It examines a single page. Speed, links, duplicates and site structure remain outside its scope.
It guarantees no rankings A hundred points means there are no technical obstacles. Whether you get cited depends on your content and authority.

Where to start fixing

Ordered by impact: the first two steps deliver more than everything else combined.

1 Open crawler access If AI crawlers are blocked nothing else matters: the content is never read. First decide whether you want that.
2 Add structured data The heaviest of the content checks. Start with Organization on the homepage and Article on posts.
3 Check the technical signals A 200 status, https, no noindex, a self-referencing canonical. The foundation for both search and AI.
4 Add llms.txt Lowest priority: small weight, no guarantees. But a few-kilobyte file takes half an hour to write.

FAQ

Does this tool use artificial intelligence?
No. The name refers to readiness FOR AI systems to read the site, not an audit performed BY AI. All seventeen checks run on fixed rules, and the weights appear in the result table — you can recompute the score by hand.
What does a score of 100 mean?
That there are no technical obstacles: crawlers have access, the page is indexable, structured data is present, the text is readable without running scripts. Whether you get cited depends on your content and authority, which no check can reveal.
Why is the score lower than in regular SEO tools?
Because a quarter of the weight sits on AI crawler access, llms.txt and structured data — things most sites still lack. The technical part is scored as anywhere else, and usually returns the highest percentage.
Does this replace a full site audit?
No, it examines a single page. Load speed, internal linking, duplicates, catalogue structure and content quality all fall outside. It checks technical preconditions rather than assessing the site as a whole.
Where do I start if the score is low?
With the two heaviest checks: AI crawler access and structured data. Together they carry 27 of 128 points. If crawlers are blocked nothing else matters — the content is never read, however much you improve it.
