Prom or Your Own Online Store in 2026: What the Marketplace Takes and When Your Own Site Pays Off

If you sell ₴100,000 a month on Prom, one of Ukraine’s largest marketplaces, in a category with an 8% fee, the marketplace takes roughly as much per year as three ready-made online stores cost, hosting included. You never see it as one bill: it is spread across the placement package, a fee on every order and payment charges, so it feels as if “everything is fine”.

But moving out completely is not always the right call either. Prom brings buyers, while your own site brings nobody at first: traffic has to be paid for separately. Below are Prom and Horoshop prices as of October 2026, the real cost of your own store, a payback calculation with numbers and the setup that turns out to be the most profitable for most sellers.

Want numbers for your own store rather than an example? Send us a link to your Prom store — within 15 minutes during business hours we will calculate when your own site pays off. Free and with no obligation.

Key takeaways

  • On Prom you pay twice: a placement package (from ₴7,500 a year at the regular price) and a single fee on every catalog order — from 4.2% depending on the category.
  • With ₴100,000 monthly turnover and an 8% fee, the marketplace takes about ₴103,500 a year, or 8–9% of turnover.
  • Your own online store costs from ₴29,900 one-off plus hosting from ₴250 a month. There is no sales commission and no platform subscription.
  • The main hidden cost of your own site is traffic. You have to bring buyers yourself: Google Ads, Google Shopping, SEO, social media.
  • A site pays off fastest on repeat buyers: every repeat order on your own site carries no marketplace fee. With ₴200,000 monthly turnover, the store pays off in about 10 months if 20% of orders move to the site, and in about 5 months if 40% do.
  • For most sellers it pays not to “leave Prom” but to combine channels: the site becomes the main storefront and admin panel, and Prom becomes an extra source of new buyers.

How much it costs to sell on Prom in 2026

A Prom seller’s costs have three parts: an annual placement package, a fee on catalog orders and payment processing charges. The figures below come from Prom’s seller help center as of October 2026.

Placement packages

A package is the annual fee for the right to list products. “Prom mix” packages include both a storefront site and product listings in the marketplace catalog. Prices are for 365 days, VAT included.

Package Products Price per year
Prom mix 1,000 up to 1,000 ₴7,500
Prom mix 6,000 up to 6,000 ₴12,000
Prom mix 10,000 up to 10,000 ₴15,000
Prom mix 20,000 up to 20,000 ₴30,000
Prom top (special offer only) up to 100,000 ₴11,500
Prom site 10,000 (site only, no catalog) up to 10,000 ₴10,000

There are promotions for new sellers. Verified sole proprietors and companies that are just starting out can get the “Easy start” package for ₴1,900 a year (until 31 October 2026). And from 1 October to 31 December 2026 the “Promo Prom mix” offer is available: a 1,000-product package costs ₴6,000, of which ₴2,000 is credited to your balance as a guarantee deposit. Some services require at least ₴500 on the balance. Promotions lower the cost of getting started, but not the sales fee — and that fee is the bulk of the cost.

The single fee per order

To appear in the Prom catalog, products must be enrolled in ProSale. For catalog orders you pay a single fee — a percentage of the product price. The base rate is the same for every seller in a category, and the promotion mode lowers or raises it.

  • Base rates start at 4.2%, and at 2.1% in the “Economy” mode. Broad categories cost more than narrow ones, so it matters to place a product in the most precise category. Prom’s own help center uses 6% and 8% in its examples.
  • The “Economy” mode halves the fee but is available only to top sellers and newcomers.
  • The “More sales” and “Turbo” modes push products up in marketplace search, but the fee is higher.
  • For products priced from ₴10,000, the full rate applies to the first ₴10,000 and a reduced rate of 1–3% to the rest, depending on the mode.

Prom Payment and other charges

  • Prom Payment: 1.7% of the order amount if money is paid out to a business account, and 3.5% if paid out to a card.
  • A Prom site on your own domain: ₴10 for every order placed, including canceled ones, unless paid through Prom Payment. So even an “own site” on the Prom platform has a per-order charge.

What it means in hryvnias: an example

Take a store with up to 1,000 products, the “Prom mix 1,000” package at the regular price and a category with an 8% fee. We leave payment processing out: card acquiring on your own site costs about the same, so it cancels out in the comparison.

Monthly turnover 8% fee per year Package Total per year Share of turnover
₴50,000 ₴48,000 ₴7,500 ₴55,500 9.3%
₴100,000 ₴96,000 ₴7,500 ₴103,500 8.6%
₴200,000 ₴192,000 ₴7,500 ₴199,500 8.3%
₴300,000 ₴288,000 ₴7,500 ₴295,500 8.2%

To plug in your own numbers, take your annual catalog turnover, multiply it by your category rate and add the package price. With more than 1,000 products the package costs ₴12,000–30,000 a year. If you use the “More sales” or “Turbo” modes, the fee will be higher.

How much your own online store costs

Your own store is a site on your domain whose code and data belong to you. You pay for development once, and after that only for hosting and the domain. There is no percentage of sales, neither on the first order nor on the thousandth.

Cost How much How often
Start development, up to 300 products from ₴29,900 once
Business development, up to 2,000 products from ₴44,900 once
Store hosting from ₴250/month monthly
Domain a few hundred hryvnias yearly
Online card payments 1.3–1.5% per payment
Sales commission ₴0 —
Platform subscription ₴0 —

Hosting paid yearly costs ₴2,700. Online payments: 1.3% with plata by mono or 1.5% with LiqPay. The Business package adds 1C/BAS sync and feeds for Prom, Rozetka and Google Merchant.

The Start package already includes a catalog with filters, a cart, online payment, Nova Poshta delivery, orders sent to a CRM, admin panel training, GA4 analytics and basic SEO. The full package contents and timelines are on the online store development page. If you are still comparing contractors, see how the budget adds up in how much a turnkey online store costs.

The cost people rarely mention: traffic

Prom sells you not just a storefront but buyers: people already search for products on the marketplace. Nobody comes to your own site on their own. In the first months, buyers come from:

  • your own customer base: long-standing clients, offline buyers, social media followers — the cheapest traffic;
  • Google Shopping: free product listings and paid Shopping campaigns through Google Merchant Center;
  • Google Ads — fast, but you pay for every click. We covered how to plan the budget without wasting money in our article on Google Ads costs;
  • SEO — the cheapest orders in the long run, but the first results appear in 3–6 months. What exactly to optimize is explained in our guide to e-commerce SEO.

So an honest comparison is not “Prom’s fee versus zero” but “Prom’s fee versus the cost of bringing a buyer to your own site”. And this is where repeat purchases decide everything.

Horoshop: the middle option between a marketplace and your own site

Horoshop is a subscription-based online store builder. There is no sales commission and the site runs on your domain, but you rent the platform: the store works for as long as you pay.

Horoshop plan Paid yearly Paid monthly Products
Basic ₴288/month yearly billing only up to 1,000
Standard ₴816/month ₴1,020/month up to 20,000
Pro ₴1,728/month ₴2,160/month 50,000–250,000
B2B ₴3,360/month ₴4,200/month 50,000–250,000

To be honest about money: Horoshop Standard costs about ₴9,800 a year (₴816 × 12). Over 3 years that is ₴29,400 versus about ₴38,000 for your own Start store with hosting, and the costs only even out in the fifth year, because the subscription never ends while development is paid once. The Basic plan at ₴288/month is cheaper still. So people choose their own site not to save on a subscription, but for features and independence.

Your own site makes more sense when you need something the platform plan does not have: a non-standard catalog, a configurator, wholesale prices and a dealer account, 1C/BAS sync built around your processes, or a design that does not look like hundreds of other stores. Another argument is independence: nobody can change the plan, limits or rules of your own site.

When your own site pays off: the calculation

The simplest way to calculate is not to move the whole business but to take the share of orders that come to your site without paid ads: repeat purchases from your own customer base, free Google Shopping listings, visits from search and social media. On every such order you no longer pay the marketplace fee.

Important: this means your own customer base and new buyers from Google and social media. Do not lure buyers who came from the Prom catalog away in breach of the marketplace’s rules.

Formula: monthly savings = turnover × share of orders on the site × fee rate − hosting. Payback = development cost ÷ monthly savings.

An example for a ₴29,900 Start store, an 8% fee and ₴250/month hosting:

Monthly turnover 20% of orders on the site 40% of orders on the site
₴100,000 +₴1,350/month, payback ≈ 22 months +₴2,950/month, payback ≈ 10 months
₴200,000 +₴2,950/month, payback ≈ 10 months +₴6,150/month, payback ≈ 5 months
₴300,000 +₴4,550/month, payback ≈ 7 months +₴9,350/month, payback ≈ 3 months

With more than 300 products you need the ₴44,900 Business package: with ₴200,000 monthly turnover and 40% of orders on the site, it pays off in about 7 months.

Why can the share be that high? Because in many niches a large part of orders are repeat ones: cosmetics, pet food, household cleaning products, consumables, spare parts, children’s goods. On a marketplace you pay a fee on every repeat order from a customer you have already paid Prom to acquire. On your own site a repeat order carries no marketplace fee.

The logic is the same with paid ads: compare the cost of an order from ads with the fee. If the average order is ₴1,500 and the fee is 8%, Prom takes ₴120 from every order. Acquiring a new buyer through Google Ads often costs more, but if that buyer comes back twice, every following order carries no fee. We explained how to calculate the return on a website more broadly in our article on website ROI for business.

What you lose on a marketplace besides money

  • Competitors one click away. A buyer compares your price with a dozen other sellers in one click, and the competition often comes down to price.
  • Buyers belong to the platform. The marketplace sees the purchase history and can show your customer another store next time.
  • Your brand is not remembered. People remember “I bought it on Prom”, not the name of your store.
  • The rules change without you. Packages, fees and promotion modes are revised, and you can only adapt.
  • Limited options. A loyalty program, wholesale prices, your own product page design, category SEO — on a marketplace these either do not exist or are the same for everyone.

When it is better to stay on Prom

Not everyone needs their own site, and it is better to know that before spending money:

  • turnover is under ₴50,000 a month and there is no spare budget for advertising;
  • you are testing a niche or a new product and do not yet know whether it will sell;
  • products are cheap impulse buys and there are almost no repeat purchases;
  • there is nobody to process orders from the site and look after the ads;
  • almost all sales are new buyers from marketplace search.

In that situation, first get the most out of Prom: the right categories, strong product pages, reviews. Come back to your own site once you have regular customers.

The most profitable setup for most sellers: Prom and your own site together

You do not have to choose one. Most often we advise not leaving the marketplace but moving the “center” of the business to your own site:

  1. The site becomes the main admin panel. You manage products, prices and stock in one place, and Prom updates automatically through a feed. Feeds for Prom, Rozetka and Google Merchant, plus 1C/BAS sync, come with the Business package. We explained how sync works in our article on ERP integration.
  2. Repeat purchases move to the site. A loyalty program, promo codes and a customer account work only on your own site. Communicate with buyers who came from the marketplace within its rules.
  3. New buyers from Google. A product feed in Merchant Center gives free listings in Google Shopping, and Google Ads management with purchase tracking shows how much each order costs.
  4. Category SEO. Category and filter pages on your site can rank in Google for queries like “buy … in Kyiv”. A marketplace storefront works for the marketplace itself. If you want to grow in search systematically, see our e-commerce SEO service.
  5. Analytics. GA4 with e-commerce tracking shows which channel brings cheaper orders, so you can reduce Prom’s share gradually, without risking turnover.

How to move from Prom without losing sales

  1. Export your products. The Prom seller account lets you export the catalog to a file. We import it into the new store together with categories, attributes, prices and photos.
  2. Keep names and SKUs. That way customers recognize the products and you do not have to redo your accounting.
  3. Move the domain if you have one. If your Prom site runs on your own domain, we move the domain to the new store and set up 301 redirects from the old addresses so you keep most of your Google rankings.
  4. Reviews start over. Marketplace reviews do not transfer automatically. Collect them on your site and in your Google Maps profile from day one.
  5. Connect everything before launch. Payments, Nova Poshta, the CRM and, if needed, Checkbox for fiscal receipts should work from the first order.
  6. Do not switch Prom off right away. Give the site 2–3 months to build traffic, and only then decide whether to scale the marketplace down.

Frequently asked questions

A placement package costs from ₴7,500 a year at the regular price, and on every catalog order the marketplace charges a single fee from 4.2% depending on the category. Prom Payment adds 1.7% or 3.5% when the buyer pays through it. With an 8% fee and ₴100,000 monthly turnover, that is about ₴103,500 a year.

Prom is more profitable at the start and with low turnover: it brings buyers without an advertising budget. Your own site is more profitable once turnover reaches ₴100,000 a month, there are many repeat buyers and there is a budget for traffic. For most sellers it is best to combine both channels.

It depends on turnover, the fee rate and the share of orders that move to the site. With ₴200,000 monthly turnover and an 8% fee, a ₴29,900 store pays off in about 10 months if 20% of orders move to the site, and in about 5 months if 40% do.

Yes, and it is the most common setup. The site becomes the main admin panel, and Prom updates automatically through a feed. That way you keep marketplace buyers and gradually increase the share of commission-free orders.

Yes. The catalog is exported from the Prom seller account to a file and imported into the new store together with categories, attributes, prices and photos. Marketplace reviews do not transfer automatically.

Horoshop is cheaper for the first 4 years and launches quickly, but it is a platform rental with its templates and limits. Your own site costs more at the start, but it belongs to you and is built around your processes: wholesale prices, 1C/BAS, configurators, a unique design.
