The provider decides speed, uptime and half your email problems. The domain alone reveals who it is.

For a store that sends campaigns, a shared IP is the main risk: one spamming neighbour and your mail stops arriving. Check the address against blacklists before that happens.

What to look at when choosing

Server location The closer to your visitors, the faster the response. For a local business that means a local or nearby data centre.
Backups Daily and stored separately. A copy on the same server disappears along with it.
PHP and database versions Outdated versions mean security holes and incompatibility with modern software.
Support Test it before buying: send a question and see when and what comes back.

How to find out where a site is hosted

Sometimes you just need to know which hosting a site runs on — yours, a competitor's, or a site that is fast and inspiring. Enter the site address and the service shows the IP address, hosting provider or data center, hosting country and the autonomous system number (ASN). Detection is based on the IP range owner.

Why the "probable" provider? If the site sits behind a CDN (e.g. Cloudflare), you will see the CDN network rather than the end server — that is by design. We find the domain IP address and then the organization owning the IP range. Usually this is the hosting provider or data center.
Why is the provider inaccurate?
If the site is behind a CDN (Cloudflare etc.), you see the CDN network IP, not the real hosting. This is normal — the CDN hides the real server.
Why know a competitor hosting?
To assess the infrastructure level, choose a reliable provider, or understand why a site is fast or slow.
